Emergency Winter Appeal

Emergency Winter Appeal

Tonight, as the temperature drops below 10ºC you are perhaps struggling to keep yourself warm.

You feel the chill in your fingers and toes, you shiver as you walk from one room to another and – despite the heater being on – you can still feel the cold creeping in from outside.

You may have a cat curled up on your lap or you may be reading this over the snores of your dog, who is sprawled out next to the fireplace.

Now imagine how cold it would be if all of those comforts were stripped away – you are barefoot, in a single layer of clothing, alone and in the dark.

While you are reading this, 92 dogs and 40 cats are spending the night in semi-enclosed kennels. Rain-soaked blankets flap in the wind, threatening to tear free from the clothes pegs anchoring them to the mesh at the front of cages.

A single layer of metal sheeting shields them from the noisy, bone-chilling winds and ice-cold rain.

Help us raise $18,600 by this Sunday. This means we have that extra $1033 needed each day to help cover the rising cost of care for animals in need. This is where you can make a difference. (Click below to read more…)

Will you make an urgent donation to help make up the shortfall, so we can ensure that all animals get the care they need through this cold snap?

Unfortunately, keeping our essential animal services afloat during this extreme weather isn’t cheap – we are expecting our electricity prices to surge over the coming months. Heat lamps are the kennel’s primary source of heating and are a lifeline for dogs sleeping out in the elements, especially our short hair and senior dogs.

To make things worse, today our industrial dryer broke down making it near impossible to dry bedding, during this wet weather. Torrential rain over the weekend has made some kennels uninhabitable, with staff working tirelessly to ensure our remaining enclosures stay dry.

An increased workload coupled with a shortage of volunteers has meant our staff are needing to work longer hours. Our vet team is monitoring animals closely, with some of the older and more vulnerable ones requiring care, support and modified treatment plans.

The leaky Lonsdale shelter must stay afloat for two more winters before our animals are moved to temperature-controlled accommodation at the new Animal Care Campus.

❤️ UPDATE: TARGET REACHED ❤️

We are excited to announce that our winter emergency appeal has exceeded its target of $18,600 in less than 24-hours. We are still accepting donations, which will help keep animals warm going into the month of July.

Thank you so much for remembering vulnerable animals as the weather sets in. Your support has ensured our life-saving work can continue, well into winter.
