Dudley’s ill-fitting collar had got caught under his right arm and became embedded in his flesh, causing a painful, infected open wound.
“This would have to be one of the deepest, and most severe collar wound injuries that I’ve seen.”
– Dr Julie, RSPCA SA Veterinarian
It’s a poignant reminder that cat collars should be well-fitted, with identification and a safety clasp that will release if they get caught on something.
Our vet team wasted no time cleaning, debriding and stitching up the wound. But being so deep and in an area that is hard to keep immobilised, it needs ongoing management – regular cleaning, monitoring and re-stitching under anaesthesia.
Open wounds as bad as this can be life-threatening, due to the high risk of infection. Fortunately, with you on his side, Dudley’s prognosis is strong.
His recovery journey continues, and he is currently soaking up lots of TLC in a loving foster home.
Despite his suffering, Dudley has won the hearts of the whole vet team with his friendly demeanour.
This sweet cat has endured unimaginable suffering. Now you can give him the chance to know a life free from pain and full of love.
Thank you for your kindness.
