In an incredible tale of survival, six three-day-old kittens were found a few days ago, huddled together inside a car tyre as it was unloaded from a shipping container that had travelled all the way from Port Adelaide to a tyre recycling depot at Lonsdale.
Fortunately, one of our dedicated volunteers came to the rescue, delivering them to our nearby shelter for a vet check and feed, before taking them into foster care at their home.
Tragically, one of the kittens had already passed away by the time they were found.
It’s a miracle the remaining five survived the ordeal, and now they will need weeks of around-the-clock care before they are ready to find new homes.
In honour of their unconventional journey, we have named them (Bob) Jane, Dunlop, Mich(elin), Dayton & Bridge(stone).
These are just five of over 750 cats and kittens currently in our care, following a huge kitten season.
Despite high adoption numbers over the last month, our cat-care team remains under pressure because kittens keep coming in. We still have so many undesexed cats in SA – and we’ll never turn away an animal in need.
