Marty's Fund

Marty's Fund

This brave little cat came into our shelter a few days ago with a nasty injury. The skin and soft tissue had been ripped off his chin, leaving his jaw bone exposed.

Marty, as he is now known, was brought in by a member of the public after they found him seeking refuge in their backyard.

We suspect he may have been the victim of a car accident, but we will likely never know the full extent of the tribulations this young stray has suffered.

With his scraggly fur, tiny frame and confronting injury, this little guy is an inspiring fighter.

Poor Marty is severely undersized and emaciated, weighing a tiny 1.8kg and with a body condition score of 1 out of 9 (indicating he is severely underweight, and was in danger of starvation).

His painful injury makes it difficult for him to eat, which may help explain why he is the size of a small kitten, despite being around a year old. Now on a soft diet of Hills prescription cat food, he is slowly managing to get nutrients back into his body, but it remains a struggle.

Despite all he has been through, Marty is a loving and happy boy who wants pats from everyone he meets. Our vet team soon fell in love with him, with one of them describing him as “absolutely lovely and a real smoocher”.

Marty will likely need multiple surgeries to heal his severe jaw wounds, as well as major dental extractions.

He will need strong pain relief, antibiotics, and lots of TLC as he heals and puts on weight.

While he is recovering, Marty will need to spend an extended period in foster care to build up his strength before he’s finally ready to start his new life in a forever home.

Depending on how his recovery goes, Marty’s medical costs are likely to stack up to over $3000, as a conservative estimate.

As a community-funded charity, we need your support to cover these costs of treatment and care that will dramatically change this young cat’s life.

His resilience and spirit have got him this far, but now he needs your help.

Will you donate to Marty’s emergency fund to help cover the costs of his vital surgeries and recovery?

Your support will give this young cat, with so much love to give, hope for a full recovery and a future free of pain, fear and suffering.

*The goal for Marty’s fundraiser includes the cost of potentially multiple surgeries, major dental work, post-operative care, pain relief, antibiotics, and recovery in foster care. If his medical and care costs are less than is raised in his name, additional funds will provide care for other animals in need of urgent veterinary treatment.
